My week: How was yours?

This week has lead to me to have some interesting and thought-provoking experiences. On Wednesday I went to a local bookstore to hear the author of Jarhead read. He read part of a new book he's writing that won't be in the final version, but gave some insight to what he knows and has learned since the Persian Gulf War ended.

On Thursday in our Native American Studies class, we began looking into "copies" of Native Americans created by popular culture, such as Native American mascots. We watched a flim that day about the beginnings of the major protest against the Chief Illiniwek mascot of the University of Illinois "Fighting Illini". This weekend, aside from studying for a calculus exam, I've been reading articles about how Hollywood has protrayed Native Americans. I've had my own opinion about how falsely and how with so little common sense Native Americans have been protrayed in these venues, and I have to say that this past week has only strengthened my stance on these issues.

Another semi-kinna-sometimeoranother post

I've gotten lazy and busy again, which means that I'm handling the college lifestyle pretty well. As long as you don't ask how my calculus and chemistry midterms went.

On Thursday night, I ran into (online, so it's in a figurative sense) a friend who I haven't spoken to in about two years. As it turns out, we both now share our own unique interest in one area of life, of which I may or may not discuss at another time. But needless to say, having someone to relate to on this topic is, well, almost liberating, being able to finally get my thoughts out of my cranial cobwebs.

As I go along with my classes though, I'm thinking that there is a larger issue within myself I need to address, to research. This issue, though, is outside of realm of pure science where my microbiology major lies. It's something I may be able to look at somewhere along the path of this life, but it's something that despite all my willpower, I can't stop thinking about.
