Linux: A Simple Title

Within the past week, not only have I brought myself to intermittently study my calculus for an upcoming exam, but I've gotten down and dirty so to speak with the linux box a friend gave me a few months ago. It was running Debian, which was decent for a distro.

I got our new router hooked up, so now my mom's computer and my linux box are on a network, so I can now browse the internet without waiting for mom to get done on her computer. I also downloaded, compiled and installed MPlayer, though I have yet to figure out how to get it to work. And I would have called it a complete computer, if it weren't for that I couldn't get the sound card working or detected by Debian (It's a Sound Blaster Live!, btw).

That's when my love affair with Debian ended.

I brought myself a copy of SuSE Linux Professional 9.3. It took a little less than three hours to install the OS itself, along with the packages I had selected off the CD. Everything was set in motion to start the next leg of my linux experience. I had it downloading and installing updates from the web.

That's when I pushed some heavy object next to my desk and turned off the surge strip all my electronics were connected to.

Much frustration ensused. I'm doing a new installation tonight, due to how it's hanging up at system initialization, probably because it's missing something from the accidental power-down. Hope to comment more on this from my, hopefully, SuSE box tonight.
