Symposium, Sinuses, Welding
Last Thursday and Friday I was at the Junior Science Symposium in Iowa City. Some interesting presentations, and some that didn't appeal to me much. Our school's presenter placed in the final five, so he got a small scholarship and a trip to San Diego for the national symposium. Sadly, he wasn't the top 1st or 2nd, so he won't get to present down there. Nice little trip he's getting, though.
Since the weekend I've also been trying to get over some sinuses or whatever it is. Hopefully it'll clear up by the late part of the week, but I can't be sure about that. I also got a chance to try welding for the first time in metal shop today and it nearly scared the crap out of me. If you're wondering what type of welding I was doing, it was arc welding. The electrode got stuck to the practice piece of metal and sparked up. I dropped the electrode and electrode holder, which probably wasn't the wisest thing to do. I'm thinking of trying wire welding tomorrow, hopefully that'll go better. Either that or I'll just stick to using hemmed edges and rivets for my project, which isn't an entirely bad idea, provided it's okay with my teacher.
